Minister of Health and Family Welfare is one of the biggest ministries under the government of India. The basic work of this ministry is to change or develop new health policies according to the need of the tenure and to start all the new programmers and awareness for family planning in India. Minister of Health and Family Welfare also holds a cabinet position with that he or she will be a member of the council of ministers. This ministry got formed in India for health and family development in 1976 after which this ministry always provides Indian Pharmacopoeia through the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) which is also known as an autonomous body for providing drugs and pharmaceuticals and healthcare devices with the latest technologies in India.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare
The current Minister of Health and Family Welfare is Harsh Vardhan. This Ministry is also is known for handling two main health departments which are:- Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Health Research. These departments are known for different welfare in India which are –
- Department of Health – This department mainly deals with health care, including all the awareness campaigns, immunization campaigns, preventive medicine, and public health in India. Some of these kinds of steps of this department are- NACO, National AIDS Control Organisation, National Cancer Control Programme, and so on.
- Department of Family Welfare– This department is responsible for those aspects which are relating to family welfare, especially in reproductive health, maternal health, pediatrics, information, education, and communications with that cooperation with NGOs and international aid groups, and rural health services in India. Some of these kinds of steps of this department are- PRCs, NIHFW, IIPS, and so on.
- Department of Health Research – This department handles all the research part and making of vaccines for the treatment in India. This department was got formed in 2007.
- Department of AYUSH– This department also comes under the Minister of Health and Family Welfare which works to promote yoga and meditation in India which is why it is also known as the Department of Ayurveda. This department mainly handles yoga, naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and homeopathy, and other alternative medicine systems that are traditionally present in India. Some of these kinds of steps of this department are- NIA, CCRAS, CCRUM, NIS, and so on.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan is the current Minister of Health and Family Welfare with which he is also a minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences in the BJP government. He is also known for his work under WHO where he was elected as the Chairperson of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization from 2024. He has also represented the Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi in the 17th Lok Sabha. He is also born in Delhi only where is studied first in the Dariyaganj area and then from Zakir Hussain College of Delhi University after which he went to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College and then Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and later Master of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology also.
